Why Essential TOGAF
TOGAF is largely a well established consensus of best practice of developing an Enterprise Architecture. It provides the best available method to develop Enterprise Architecture.
Unfortunately, it also contains a number of elements that are not integrated with the core, items that are speculative and parts that are internally inconsistent. Over time TOGAF has accumulated material. Material that is being updated with new releases continues to have value. Material that is being carried over by inertia is usually well past its best-before date and should be removed. In the end, the breadth of the documentation is a significant barrier to use and effective editing within the Architecture Forum.
Essential TOGAF is designed to address these problems. As part of Hornford Associates Enterprise Architecture practice we have edited the TOGAF specification removing loosely, or completely uncoupled sections, removing speculative items and creating an internally consistent whole. As side effect is significantly shorter and a more usable TOGAF
Terms of Use
Essential TOGAF is an adaption of TOGAF and offered under licence by Integritas Solutions Inc. Hornford Associates has transitioned its memebership in the Open Group and our Open Group Commercial Licence to Integritas Solutions Inc, the Commerial Licence only allows use of this adaptation for the development of Enterprise Architecture within your organization. External publication or use of Essential TOGAF to deliver architecture development or consulting services to a third party is not allowed under the licence
You will also require a licence to use TOGAF from the Open Group. Perpetual free licences are available that conform to the limited use licence of Essential TOGAF.

State of TOGAF
TOGAF is a generic framework intended to be used in a wide variety of environments. It is expected that TOGAF will be tailored to become integrated into an organizations processes and organization structures.
